Ubisoft are on a bit of a role with their triple-A game line-up over the past two years; with Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4 in 2014 and Rainbow Six and The Division to launch later this year. There hasn’t been a hell of a lot of new information on The Divisions lately until now.

UTMESSAN was held in Reykjavík, Iceland, on Friday the 6th of February. The UTMESSAN is a convention similar to similar to CES. A lot of companies from around the world come to showcase their work to try to encourage students to study Information Technology in Iceland.

I was at a booth showcasing VR tech where I met a group claiming to be a small game-dev start-up with industry season veterans. I asked what kind of experience they had. Two of them were former Ubisoft employees, a game-play programmer and in-house tester. One of them was a former CCP employee, worked in 3D design. And another just a free-lance artist.

We got into a bit of a discussion about the games industry and how unstable it is, but before long I had to ask about my most anticipated game; The Division. Their eyes lit up. The tester had previously worked on the pre-alpha build of The Division and said, “I was amazed with just how polished the pre-alpha was and I am confident that people will fall in love with the game when the alpha goes public.” The Division? Public? Alpha? I asked when, but he could only speculate, “sometimes this spring.”

He did show me a series of pictures on his phone from the in-house testing sessions including a picture of the game’s title screen with the word “pre-alpha test” in italic letters underneath it. I asked him if he could email the picture and he said he would do so after the weekend, so I will post them right here when I get them.

The Division is a game that is heavily focused on online co-operative and competitive game-play and the last MMO styled game that Ubisoft released was The Crew which did actually have a two stage beta; open and closed. So, I’m not doubting that there will beta for The Division. The only question is, is it really this spring?

Will you post these pictures and when? Because it would be very interesting to see those. Thank you in advance.
