EA recently commented on the missing features of the next-gen version of FIFA 14. Tournament and local co-op in Seasons and FUT have been completely removed from the next-gen version although they are present in the PlayStation 3 and Xbx 360 versions. EA claimed that these features were removed because they weren't popular enough, and, instead, they used the resources to work on FUT and Career mode. Though there has been no official comment made, this is not the entire truth.
Earlier this year EA confirmed feature parity for both current and next-gen versions of FIFA 14. Unfortunately, the next-gen version of the game shipped with a few rather big features missing. EA claimed that they did not include these features so that they could spend more time working on popular features like Career Mode and FUT -- however -- these two features are identical across both versions of the game which gives us good reason to believe that their statement isn't entirely true.
First of all, how can EA monitor the useage of an offline feature? Even if they could, why would they remove it entirely if it is already in the older version of the game? Isn't the next-gen version supposed to be an upgrade, rather than a downgrade? Well, FIFA 14 is certainly an upgrade despite missing these features. As a matter of fact, these features could have been implemented into FIFA 14 for both next-gen platform without hassle. EA's reason to exclude these features is purely based on business. 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is in development by EA Sports and is planned for release in April 2014, and it is using the FIFA 14 engine with updated rosters and kits. The features that are missing in the next-gen versions of FIFA 14, bar FUT, will be biggest selling point of the next-gen World Cup game.
Less people are likely to buy the game when they can recreate their own world cup in FIFA 14 on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and this is why you will not see these features added to the next-gen version of FIFA 14. If you've got the patience, you can always create your own tournament on the next-gen version of FIFA 14 old-school style; use exhibition mode and keep track of the games played with pen and paper. Unfortunately we have no work around for playing Seasons or FUT with local co-op, the second player will need to own a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and a copy of the game.
What are your thoughts on this? Understand EA's reason for excluding the features? Or will you be skipping this years FIFA 14 on next-gen consoles?
