Top Five Video Game Chickens Featured

Written by

Easter is upon us and that means that plenty of eggs will be decorated and hunted, and various treats will be consumed. Easter eggs are very common in video games, with most games harbouring one or more. All this talk about eggs got me thinking about where they come from, and so we are going to pay tribute to our five favourite video game chickens.

No. 5 – Heggy the Hen (Banjo-Tooie)
First up is the plump Heggy Hen. She makes the list for being totally adorable and sporting a rad blue feather coat. Oh, and she also hatches the mystery eggs that Banjo finds, rewarding the player with valuable cheats and surprises! Now that’s Easter something something!

No. 4 - Choking Chicken (Street Fighter II)
Yes this poor fellow is doomed to be choked for eternity in the background of Chun-Li’s stage in Street Fighter II. In various versions of the stage and game, as well as other entries in the series, there’s an elderly Chinese man choking the chicken. Yeah…

No. 3 - Torchic and evolved forms (Third generation Pokémon)
This little fire-type Pokémon is totally adorable. Don’t let its cuteness fool you though, as it can spit fire at a whopping 1800° Farenheit! Its final form is (mega) Blaziken which is probably one of the most badass birds in all of gaming, landing it third on our list!

No. 2 – Cucco (Zelda series)
This domesticated bird is a recurring animal in the Zelda series. They may not look like much when you come across them in various peaceful areas, but there’s more than meets the eye with these lil’ buggers. They can be of great help to Link when he grabs them by the talons and jumps off an edge, allowing him to cover more ground in one jump. But if you attack a cucco it will sound its warcry and bring its whole flock down on you, pecking Link to death. Yeeez, those are some hardcore chickens.

No. 1 – CS Chicken (Counter-Strike series)

The chickens found in the Counter-Strike games are our favourite video game chickens ever, and there’s really no good reason. We just have so many good memories of shooting them and hearing them let out that hilarious squawk. Good times.

With plenty of video game chickens to choose from, these are merely our personal favourites. Did we miss your favourite? Do you like chicken? Does a list about chickens in video games make any sense? Let us know!
