5 – The multiplayer
As anyone that’s seen Rockstar’s trailer for GTA Online can tell, it’s looking to be their most ambitious multiplayer undertaking to date. Much of what they are promising is quite similar to the Red Dead Redemption online component, which was a lot of fun to play around in, with the added insane mayhem and freedom of the expansive GTA V world map. Already there are gangs and crews forming around the world, so we imagine it will be very busy from day 1. We simply can’t wait.
4 – The story
We’ve always enjoyed the crime drama that Rockstar cooks up for their GTA titles. They know how to write a compelling story with likeable and relatable characters, which is an impressive accomplishment seeing how the GTA characters are not exactly model citizens. Hardened criminals with their hearts in the right place are just something they always seem to get right. We can’t wait to see how the story will progress with three main characters, and how it will affect the game play.
3 – Rockstar’s overhauled RAGE engine
Rockstar has made significant improvements to RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine), which has allowed them to create probably the most expansive game world to date. Everything from character models, physics, gunplay, vehicle handling, draw-distance, and more will be on a scale that we haven’t witnessed in a game to date. We can’t wait to see how the game’s A.I. will respond to the three-character dynamic in fire fights and car chases, how the citizens of Los Santos will react to the mayhem that will be unleashed, and to see just how huge the game will be in general.
2 – Improved game play
Rockstar have learned from their previous games like GTA IV, RDR, and Max Payne 3, and that accumulated knowledge and experience will blow us away with game play that is as tight and grand as the world they are creating for GTA V. Vehicles will handle more realistically akin to racing games, rather than the clumsy and almost boat-like handling in GTA IV. The cover system and gunplay is an evolution of what we saw in RDR and Max Payne 3. Giving us that cool third-person view that makes it easier to relate to the in-game character and action on-screen, while providing the tight precision of a first-person shooter. Gone is the lock-on fest of past GTA’s, and we can’t wait to plow down pedestrians and mow down enemies in GTA V
1 – Exploring the game world
The phrase “sandbox game” is for many synonymous with the GTA franchise, and will undoubtedly be further defined by GTA V. With the incredible amount of activities to pursue, areas to explore, customization options, vehicles to drive/sail/fly, animals to hunt, side-stories to discover and much, much more we foresee to spend more time simply exploring what the GTA V game world has to offer than we have in any previous game. That’s the beauty of the franchise, and with this latest instalment – Rockstar is looking to raise the bar for open-world games for years to come.
