Where Is Doom 4? Featured

Written by  Jón Haukur Pétursson

Since being announced at QuakeCon on May 7, 2008, little has been revealed about the elusive Doom 4. While announcing that the game would be revealed at QuakeCon 2010, Id Software later stated during the beginning of QuakeCon that the development team was still not ready to demonstrate the game.

During QuakeCon 2011, lead programmer John Carmack said that upon the launch of Rage, its development team would then join the Doom 4 team to expedite the development process, and now two years later there is still no sign of it.

According to Kotaku, internal conflict following the merger of the two development teams,  the departure of key team members and numerous revisions to the core game design of Doom 4 have trapped the game in development hell.

Bethesda stated that Doom 4 has been sent back to the drawing board, and Bethesda's Pete Hines said that "an earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that Id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect."

Despite these issues development continues and is reportedly being refocused towards a next-gen console, as well as pc, release.
